Reflexology Lymph Drainage (RLD)
COMING SOON!
What is Reflexology Lymph Drainage (RLD)?
RLD is an award winning reflexology technique which focuses on stimulating the lymphatic reflexes on the feet. The aim is to cause an effect on the lymphatic system in the body. It is a unique sequence that has been researched and developed by Sally Kay BSc(Hons), whilst working in Cancer Care.
Primarily, it assists with the management of secondary lymphoedema occurring from the treatment of breast cancer however it has also been shown to help with primary lymphoedema in some cases. Over a period of time, there can be a significant reduction of fluid out of the affected limb and thus a reduction of further fluid build-up.
Lymph is usually moved around the body by the massaging effect of the surrounding muscles but if the muscles get damaged or perhaps there is abnormal development of the lymphatic system, there can then be an increase in fluid in the body tissues and it is this which may lead to lymphoedema.
For breast cancer clients, we measure the arm before and after the treatment and calculate the reduction in size. Sometimes it is astonishing how much the volume of the arm has reduced!
RLD has had great results so far in people with primary and secondary lymphedema and it may be used in a similar way to Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD). Published research shows the results of RLD performed on clients are ‘highly significant’.
What other conditions can it support?
As with Manual Lymphatic Drainage, RLD may also be beneficial to people who have the following conditions:
-
Arthritis
-
Chronic fatigue
-
Sinus problems
-
Muscular tension
-
Asthma
-
Fibromyalgia
-
Migraines
-
Aches and pains
-
Eczema
-
Headaches
